The datestamp on the action is "AUG 25 1921". My serial number is either 287771 as printed on the plate or 277221 stamped into the soundboard, I don't know which it really is. Thanks for the information, it's quite helpful. Can anybody elaborate on it if they have any information? I've also heard that Cable owned Mason & Hamlin during this period and that their pianos are quite similar, albeit that the M&H is somewhat superior, but I may be remembering wrong or just have wrong information. ![]() What was it's relationship with Hobart M. I'd never heard of that brand before, and since then I've only been able to find a little bit of history, plus the standard blurb that I think was originally written as marketing stuff back in the day.Īs I understand, Herman Cable started it in 1881 and it did well until the stock market crash in 1929, then was bought up in the 30s by Aeoleon. I bought it from Sherman Clay in Phoenix in the early '90s. I've got a 5' Cable grand from 1928 and I wanted to know what your general impressions are of the quality of their builds and sound, if you have any experience with them. Hopefully it will reach a wider audience. I originally posted this question in the technician forum but didn't get any replies so I thought that I'd repost it in the general forum.
